The Cognitive Educational Experience

The Cognitive-Education Experience helps us discover the untapped potential of each individual, and bring it to the surface. The first step is a dynamic assessment followed by a customized learning program.

Dynamic Assessment

Professor Feuerstein has developed a series of tasks that pinpoint the difficulties in the thinking processes. All of our clients receive a preliminary dynamic assessment, which allows us to customize our learning programs to the needs of each individual.

TCML's Customized Learning Programs

Our programs are based on a proven, highly effective learning program called Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment (IE). This program both builds and strengthens the thinking skills and strategies necessary for continued independence and motivation in learning on a one to one basis or a group environment

  1. Thinking Skills & Strategies (IE)

IE seeks to sharpen critical thinking with the concepts, skills, strategies, operations, and attitudes necessary for independent learning. The program is designed to help individuals learn how to learn. The Organization of Dots unit is used to encourage planning behaviour, defining the problem, finding appropriate starting points, use of a model, use of cues, hypothetical if…then thinking, and checking work.

  2. Learning Strategies for Reading and/or Writing

The Mediated Learning Experience we offer to our students when engaging in tasks requiring thinking skills and strategies is brought specifically to the reading, spelling and writing process. Our focus remains on strategy development and self-monitoring across the different strands of reading (decoding, sight-word recognition and comprehension) and writing (brainstorming, organizing ideas, sentence/paragraph structure, revising).

  3. Study Skills for Middle and High School Students

In small groups, students focus upon understanding the thinking process and learn how to implement and monitor the use of strategies for improving their study habits.
